What causes bite problems?

Bite problems have two main causes: mouth breathing and tongue position. In children who breathe through their mouths, the jaw does not develop properly nor grow forward as it should. It also affects the overall facial structure.

As the child grows, the tongue supports the palate by applying force that guides the growth of the upper jaw in both length and width. If the tongue is not positioned against the palate and the necessary force is not applied, the upper jaw does not develop fully, leaving inadequate space for proper teeth alignment.

Is there anything you can do to ensure your child develops a beautiful smile?

Yes, you can! You don’t have to wait until your child’s teeth have fully changed.

The most optimal age for addressing any problems that hinder normal nasal breathing and create early signs of bite problems is the active growth phase (children up to about 11 years old).

Why is early detection so important?

By intervening early, we can naturally establish the correct functions and ensure the proper growth of the mouth and jaws, making crooked teeth and bite problems less likely. This way, we can prevent the need for orthodontic treatment. Early detection means that orthodontic treatment can be avoided!

Myofunctional therapy for children

Myofunctional therapy can help prevent orthodontic problems and is designed to improve the function of the facial and oral muscles. The therapy addresses issues such as mouth breathing, tongue position, teeth grinding, sleep disturbances, excessive salivating and atypical swallowing, among other things.

The best time for therapy is generally during the active growth phase between the ages of 6 and 10, but we also integrate therapy with orthodontic treatment in older children and adults to avoid any issues during treatment and maintain the achieved results.

How much does myofunctional therapy cost?

The cost of myofunctional therapy ranges from €2000 to €2500 depending on the complexity of the situation.

Our clinic is not a partner of the Health Insurance Fund, but payment is made in instalments so that you can spread out your expenses. The first half of the payment is due when the treatment plan is confirmed and the second when the treatment starts. You can also pay using the affordable Inbank instalment plan with an annual interest rate of 9%. You can sign a contract directly through the ‘treatment financing’ section of Dr Kalle’s website.

If started in childhood, myofunctional therapy can be especially effective in preventing orthodontic problems. The best time for therapy is generally during the active growth phase between the ages of six and ten.

Myofunctional therapy is for people of all ages and is suitable for anyone who understands how the therapy works and is able to follow the instructions correctly. I also integrate therapy with orthodontic treatment for older children and adults to avoid any problems during the course of treatment and to maintain the results.

The goal of therapy is to restore functions and prevent problems. The therapy addresses issues such as mouth breathing, teeth grinding and sleep disturbances, excessive salivating and atypical swallowing, among other things.

Therapy takes place regularly in three to four stages, and the desired outcomes are usually achieved in one to two years, depending on the age and involvement of the patient and the nature of the problem.
